Early 1989 3.8L Supercharged engines used a duracast crank, the harmonic balancer used with the duracast cranks is not compatible with the forged crankshafts. 

Compatible with:

1989.5 - 1993 Ford Thunderbird with Supercharged 3.8L

1989.5 - 1990 Mercury Cougar with Supercharged 3.8L
